Loss of Control - Chapter 15

Theo sighed as he turned over in bed. It was way to hot in his room to sleep so he got up; opening his curtains to open his windows. He felt his face turn white as only thing he could see was smoke and some flames coming from the yard. He sprinted from his room down the stares; shoving his boots on before bolting out of the door. He ran down the lane using his phone as a light to light the dark path. He turned left up the rode to the yard; throwing the gate open before running on the yard. The place was engulfed in smoke; he could bearly see anything. The fire had engulfed the hay barn by now as he spotted the tack room doors open. Someone must have broken in and set a light to the place. He opened the gate to the large field first before he ran up the yard.

He snarled before he ran towards Grey's stable. His stable was full of smoke as he opened the door; Grey bolted out of the stable keeping safety in the large field. He made his way down the stables opening them all up herding the horses out of them before closing the doors again; all following grey into the field squealing and bucking. Once the outside horses where out he quickly opened the large indoor stable's door. It was full of smoke. Theo coughed before going in; opening the doors, herding the horses out and closing them back; all the horses but a few were able to come out; three already down from the smoke. 

He ran back on the yard herding the rest of the horses into the field, then closed the gate after him; herding them further down the back into the second part of the field away from the fire and smoke. When he got back up he called the fire engines then called ma'am. 

"Theo what the hell are you phoning at 2:30am??" She shouted down the phone.
"Listen someone has set the stables on fire; someone must have broken in last night. The tack room's doors where open someone broke in and stole them then must have set the hay barn on fire. All the horses are out except the three geldings Mike owns they where down already I couldn't get them back up. The smoke must have gotten to them. The horses are alright I think but some have burns on them the ones in the outside stables closer to the fire."
"Shit okay I'll be there as soon as I can!" Shannon shouted before putting the phone down. 

Theo looked back at the horses seeing two of them down and the rest around them. He could see some of them had burns to their face where they must have stuck their faced out of the stable when the fire was blaring. He coughed before he turned walking on step towards the yard before the fire finally reached the gas bottles at the old groom's house. There was a large explosion sending Theo flying backwards hitting his back on the fence. Most of the yard was now on fire. Theo took a few minutes to get around by then the fire engine had come up the road. 

It took them nearly 3 hours to get the fire under control by then the sun had started to come up lighting the sky. Theo was sitting in a back of the police car when they turned up after being checked over by an ambulance. He looked out of the window seeing King and Grey standing by the fence. He could see four of the horses lying motionless on the ground; one he knew was Cooper, Alex's gelding. He was let out of the car soon after and saw the three girls run up the path.

"Theo what happened??" The three said together. 
"Someone broke in last night, stole all the tack and set the hay barn on fire." Theo sighed.
"Are the horses alright?" Ashley asked. 

Theo paused for a minute.

"I got most of them out in time but three off Mike's gelding; they where down when I got to them and couldn't get up." He said. "Then some went down in the field."
"Are our horses alright?" Amy asked.

Theo caused again; rubbing the large burn on his face which had a bandage on it; not knowing how to say it.

"King and Grey are alright." He said.
"What about Cooper??" Alex said.
"Alex I am so sorry..." He sighed; all colour drained out of her face.

Alex stumbled back; tears starting to roll down her face before she ran off.

"Alex!" Ashley and Amy shouted before they ran after her. 

Theo sighed as he sat against the car; looking towards his mare who lay motionless on the floor before dragging his knees up to his chest feeling himself start to break down.
